Runaway is the sixth track on Linkin Park's debut album Hybrid Theory. Aside from the breakdown, which features Chester Bennington screaming, it is one of the softer and more melodic songs on the album, during the verses that is. The bridge is one of the heaviest on the album.
The song was the result of Don Gilmore not liking the original take on it, a track titled "Stick N Move", which dates back to Xero tapes from 1996. "Stick N Move" was revamped with a new instrumental and Chester's vocals in 1998-1999. Many of the original features of "Stick N Move", aside from the lyrics are handed over to Runaway, but for the most part, the instrumental is redone completely, while still sharing chord progression, key, and tempo.

- The band wrote One Step Closer while trying to write this song.
- This song is also serve as an insert song in Two and a Half Ponies, which featuring the six main stallions Shining Armor (Andrew Francis), Fancy Pants (Trevor Devall), Thunderlane (Trevor Devall), Soaring (Matt Hill), Mr. Cake (Brian Drummond), and Big Macintosh (Peter New).
