"Runaway" is a song by American rock band Linkin Park. It is the sixth track from the band's debut album, Hybrid Theory.

"Runaway" is a more melodic song than the rest of the tracks included on the album. It features a breakdown, which Chester Bennington screaming. The bridge is often described as one of the heaviest song on the album.

Summary[]

The song was the conceived after Don Gilmore listened the first demos of the song, collectively known as "Stick N' Move", which tapes dates back from 1996, in the period of time when the band was known as Xero.

After Chester Bennington joined the band in replacement of Mark Wakefield, Stick N Move was rearranged with a new instrumental and Bennington's vocals in 1998-1999. Many of the original features of "Stick N Move", aside from the lyrics were handed over to Runaway, but most part of the instrumental was redone completely, while still sharing chord progression, key, and tempo.

Lyrics[]

 Chester   Mike

Graffiti decorations, under the sky of dust
A constant wave of tension, on top of broken trust
The lessons that you taught me; I learned were never true

Now I find myself in question
(They point the finger at me again)
Guilty by association
(You point the finger at me again)

I wanna run away/never say goodbye
I wanna know the truth/instead of wondering why
I wanna know the answers/no more lies
I wanna shut the door/and open up my mind

Paper bags and angry voices, under a sky of dust
Another wave of tension, has more than filled me up
All my talk of taking action, these words were never true

Now I find myself in question
(They point the finger at me again)
Guilty by association
(You point the finger at me again)

I wanna run away/never say goodbye
I wanna know the truth/instead of wondering why
I wanna know the answers/no more lies
I wanna shut the door/and open up my mind

I'm gonna run away, and never say goodBYE!
(Gonna run away gonna run away/gonna run away gonna run away)
I'm gonna run away, and never wonder WHY!
(Gonna run away gonna run away/gonna run away gonna run away)
I'm gonna run away, and open up my MIND!
(Gonna run away gonna run away/gonna run away gonna run away)
MIND!
(Gonna run away gonna run away/gonna run away gonna run away)
MIND!
(Gonna run away gonna run away/gonna run away gonna run away)
MIND!
(Gonna run away gonna run away/gonna run away gonna run away)

I wanna run away/never say goodbye
I wanna know the truth/instead of wondering why
I wanna know the answers/no more lies
I wanna shut the door/and open up my mind

I wanna run away
And open up my mind
I wanna run away
And open up my mind
I wanna run away
And open up my mind
I wanna run away
And open up my mind
