Cross Off is a song created by Mark Morton for the album "Aesthetic". Bennington is featured and does vocal work for this song particularly.
"One of Chester Bennington’s last known recordings is now available for everyone to hear, as his collaboration with Lamb of God guitarist Mark Morton has just been released. The song, “Cross Off”, appears on Morton’s collaborative album, Anesthetic, due out March 1st.Bennington recorded the track with Morton in the spring of 2017, just a few months before the Linkin Park singer tragically took his life in July of that year. Morton recently told Metal Hammer that he was impressed by Bennington’s work ethic. “He just had a lot of creative input at the ready when he came into the studio,” revealed That was my initial like, ‘Wow.’ He had told me he really liked the song, and we had communicated, but I’d never really hung out with Chester until when we started tracking.
”He continued, “I was really impressed for a guy at his level, at the place in the career he was at, someone of his stature and celebrity, to have that level of humility and commitment to come in there and treat this like it would be a Linkin Park song.”The song was written by Morton, Bennington, Jake Oni and producer Josh Wilbur, and features Trivium members Paolo Gregoletto and Alex Bent on bass and drums, respectively."
Lyrics
Cross off the days gone
Cross off the days gone
Gone by
Wast·ing away
A self-in·flict·ed slow de·cay
What should've been what nev·er was
Be·came the end for both of us
Heavy is the hand that points the fin·ger (Finger)
Heavy is the heart that's filled with anger (Anger)
So lay them all to waste
Years you de·cid·ed to erase
And cross off the days
So black out and hide be·hind the lines
Keep star·ing down the sun and hope the
Light will fi·nal·ly blind your eyes from see·ing
Cross off the days gone by
Cross off the days gone by
Cross off the days gone by
Cut·ting you free
The phan·tom limb was part of me
You have lived you have lost
The sep·a·ra·tion's worth the cost
Heavy are the words that go un·spo·ken (Spo·ken)
Heavy are the promis·es now bro·ken (Bro·ken)
Will you learn to love the taste
Of the de·struc·tion in your wake
Cross off the days
So black out and hide be·hind the lines
Keep star·ing down the sun and hope the
Light will fi·nal·ly blind your eyes from see·ing
Cross off the days gone by
Cross off the days gone by
Cross off the days gone
Gone by
Mak·ing my way back from the mad·ness
Shift·ing my thoughts from the black·ness
And the sad·ness but the fact is I'm swing·ing through life like a clenched fist
Fuck san·i·ty I wan·na bleed
Can't kill the pain it's ev·ery·thing
It's all I feel It's what I breathe
Turn the hate I breed in·to what I need
Heavy is the hand that points the fin·ger (Finger)
Heavy is the heart that's filled with anger (Anger)
Did you sur·vey ev·ery·thing you laid to waste
And cross off the days
So black out and hide be·hind the lines
Keep star·ing down the sun and hope the
Light will fi·nal·ly blind your eyes from see·ing
Cross off the days gone by
Cross off the days gone by
Cross off the days gone by
