Across The Line is a song from the Minutes to Midnight recording sessions that was originally released as the seventh track on Underground v9.0. The song was seen in the Making of Minutes to Midnight DVD, with the working title "Japan". Chester can be seen melodically mumbling nonsense over it. This was explained as part of the process of finding a melody. This melody would end of being the bridge of the song. During the process, the song almost made the album, being mixed and finished. There were 12 songs on the album, and it was the 13th, as Mike Shinoda has said about the song. The song was later released as an iTunes bonus track for Minutes to Midnight.

Lyrics[]

In this desert, in darkness
Lying with the gun across his chest,
Pretending he's heartless,
As the fire flashes in the sky

He was fragile and frozen
When the bullet took away his friend
But now he's somehow more broken

He's pulling his weapon to his side,
Loading it full of his goodbyes,
Holding an enemy across the line x2

Sweating and shaking,
Lying with her hands across her chest
She wakes with her cravings,
As the fire flashes in her eyes

She was fragile and frozen
When the needle took away her friend
But now she's somehow more broken

She's pulling her weapon to her side,
Loading it full of her goodbyes,
Holding an enemy across the line x2

With every battle he's choosing
With every fight he's losing,
His enemy's not far behind

With every promise she's broken
With every lie she's spoken
Her enemy's not far behind

It's your time x3

It's your time!!!

He's pulling his weapon to his side,
Loading it full of his goodbyes,
Holding an enemy across the line

She's pulling her weapon to her side,
Loading it full of her goodbyes,
Holding an enemy across the line

With every battle he's choosing
With every fight he's losing,
His enemy's not far behind

With every promise she's broken
With every lie she's spoken
Her enemy's not far behind
